Of a stallion,
Its mane lifting clear, erect,
Seen for a fraction of a second
Leaning forward...
Held uncontrollably in the air.
A quiet hush.
A sudden gasp.
A pain in the breath held still
To savour the moment.
And then-
A relapse,
A regression into the mundane.
A sigh in reproach.

What is the secret of such amazing poetry? Another beauty here. :)
ReplyDelete7 September 1983 -- I just began my love affair with poetry :)
ReplyDeleteIn the ninth standard. and poetry was about flowers, butterflies, sky, ocean :)
Do not know what your age would have been...But there is a very realistic observation of life in it, Usha :)
wishes,
devika
Nice poem you have posted here, Usha.
ReplyDeleteTara, thank you!
ReplyDeleteDevika, so you started really young! Thank you for the visit and sharing your views about the write!
Gopinath, Thank you too!

ReplyDeleteChandrika, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI meant every word I wrote in the last poem. Now not just words but I can see the similarity too ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yet again but then you know that already. You should be published and let me know when you do.
Very nice poem... wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteYou wrote this in 83?You are full of beautiful, amazing surprises:)
ReplyDeleteHow?How did you write this back then?
I am guessing and if I am correct you were doing your masters or finishing it....thereabouts...
Oh man!And I can say in all honesty that I ,even now cannot pen such lines...!!
You dont just love animals ...you feel what they feel...
each flicker,each heartbeat..
and you portray them with so many emotions...
Just answer this query of mine...
Did you see a horse at close quarters before writing this?
Because please take my word for it ,that anyone upon reading this would feel that the soul who has penned these lines lives and breathes horses....and revels in their majestic bearing..
I will simply echo what Solilo says...
to these and all of yours in print would be an honour...
you have kept a lot of these treasures hidden haven't you?:))
probably kept them in an old notebook or journal, all leatherbound and wrapped with care...
tucked away at the back..taken out for some tender loving care...
brimming with nostalgia...
Each word of yours comes from the heart...
and even those who may not understand peotry will understand these....

This did not show up on my blogroll!!! :(
ReplyDeleteElegance and grace... :)
Actually, the title reminded me of an old tamil song. I am told tht the singer (SP Balasubramanian?) sang a few lines at a stretch, without pausing for breath.
Peace.
Breathless indeed.... captivated by the power packed emotions..
ReplyDeletelovely :)
ReplyDeleteUsha,
ReplyDeleteI was reminded of the movie Black Stallion after reading this.
I remember how I fell in love with horses after seeing the movie and how I had dreamed, for a long time, of owning a few.
Cheers,
Salil

ReplyDeleteamazing... just "wow"!
ReplyDeletewow
ReplyDeletei was still learning how to walk properly when this was written. believe it or not ... it's humbling. :D
I would seem this is the second time a comment in reply has been swallowed whole... :( Had posted a reply here, earlier, and now I cannot find it here!
ReplyDeleteSo here goes, again :)
Solilo, thank you all over again :) :) The P word is a dream as of now :)
Kanaguonline, thank you :)
Meg, Meg, Meg... there you are, rushed and breathless and all eyes, and words.. :D! I did my masters after my BEd, which I did after I got married, and had kids, lol, 10 years after actually... so no to Masters'.. :) :)But, well, I had just discovered that words found a channel through me, and since then it has been fun being a conduit :) The muse is real in the sense, I think I was very influenced by those Horse Jumping Shows, and esp. those two beautiful films, National Velvet and International Velvet.. if u havent seen them you should :) I still love horses, though I have never been on one, or even got close to them :) Somehow, this write just happened :) :)
And yes, each scrap is hoarded, just as you say.. :) You would know !!!!
Karthik, I think you are referring to that film in which he acts along with Radhika I think, or is it Sarita, am not sure. Is it Keladi Kannamma. I loved the film, the story, and the delicate relatioship of the three main characters... :) Thanks for being reminded of it :) Makes me feel good :) :)
@Paintng the Savanna, thanks! :)
Vishesh, thank you!
Salil, indeed that one too.. :) Thank you so much for the good words!
Sashu, you would have read it am sure.. :) It was briefly on AP too :) Thank you for the sweet words!
Roop, thank you :) :)
"A regression into the mundane"-how apt for today's world!
ReplyDeletelovely Usha:)
Mithe... :)
ReplyDeleteIs this supposed to be metaphorical? We all get those glimpses of who we really are and then a lot many people get back to their mundane lives... Or is this just my interpretation?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful write... I loved the way you have described the moment... Beautiful :)
